The Tree Church and Gardens Wedding – Chelsey + Eugene

A Summer Wedding at The Tree Church and Gardens

If you’re looking for a Tree Church and Gardens wedding, this one is a perfect example of why this venue has become one of my favourites near Hamilton.

Set amongst beautifully established gardens, The Tree Church offers multiple locations for your ceremony, portraits and reception, all within walking distance of each other. In December, the gardens are absolutely thriving, with colourful flower beds, towering trees and flowering hydrangeas creating an incredible backdrop in every direction.

This wedding embraced the garden setting beautifully. Crisp white and green florals were paired with soft blue hydrangeas throughout the styling, while the rich chocolate brown bridesmaid dresses added warmth and contrast against all the lush greenery. It felt elegant, timeless and perfectly suited to a New Zealand summer.

Photographing the day on a mix of digital and 35mm film helped capture both the polished moments and the nostalgic atmosphere that seemed to suit the venue so well.

Getting Married at The Tree Church and Gardens

One of the biggest advantages of choosing The Tree Church and Gardens is that everything happens in one place.

Guests can wander through the gardens before the ceremony, the Tree Church itself provides one of the most unique ceremony locations in New Zealand, and afterwards, there are endless portrait opportunities without ever needing to leave the property.

Whether it’s the flower gardens, manicured hedges, winding pathways or the iconic Tree Church structure itself, every corner offers something different. Even in the middle of summer, there are plenty of shaded areas, making portraits comfortable throughout the afternoon.

Wedding Style

The styling complemented the venue perfectly without competing with it.

White orchids, hydrangeas and cascading green amaranthus were used throughout the ceremony and reception, creating soft, sculptural arrangements that felt luxurious while still letting the gardens shine. Stone plinths, flowing linen and simple bud vases added texture, while the brown bridesmaid dresses grounded the colour palette beautifully.

As the sun dropped lower, guests enjoyed burgers and fries, Duck Island ice cream and drinks before gathering back together for cake cutting and speeches followed by golden hour portraits around the gardens.

Thinking About a Tree Church Wedding?

If you’re planning a Tree Church and Gardens wedding, I’d absolutely recommend setting aside time to explore the property during your portrait session. Every season offers something different, but December is particularly beautiful, with full gardens, flowering hydrangeas and long summer evenings that make the most of golden hour.

As a wedding photographer, I photograph throughout Waikato, Hamilton, Auckland and beyond, and The Tree Church continues to be one of those venues that photographs beautifully no matter where you turn.
