Waiheke Island Backyard Wedding Photographer – Joanna + Nick

Relaxed Private Home Wedding on Waiheke Island

I always love photographing weddings at family homes, and this Waiheke Island wedding was no exception. The groom’s mum’s property made the perfect setting for a relaxed summer celebration, with the ceremony in the backyard, drinks on the lawn and their dog making regular appearances throughout the day.

The styling was timeless and understated, with crisp white florals, olive greenery and soft champagne bridesmaid dresses complementing the island setting perfectly. The bride wore a modern Kyha gown and created all of the florals, stationery, signage and styling herself, giving the day a beautifully cohesive feel.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a relaxed walk-and-fork reception on the front lawn, with incredible catering by Luxe Waiheke, drinks in the sunshine and plenty of time to mingle. It was the kind of wedding where there was no rushing, just good food, great company and an unforgettable Waiheke afternoon.

Before heading back to the celebrations, we snuck away to one of Waiheke’s nearby beaches for portraits. The rocky coastline, golden evening light and relaxed pace made for some of my favourite images from the day.

Planning a Waiheke Island wedding? Between the beautiful beaches, coastal views, vineyards and relaxed island atmosphere, it’s one of my favourite places in New Zealand to photograph weddings.
