A Relaxed Auckland Marquee Wedding in Hunua | Briony & Nathan

There’s something incredibly special about getting married somewhere that already holds years of memories. Briony and Nathan chose to host their relaxed Auckland marquee wedding at a family camp in Hunua, a place filled with nostalgia, connection, and summers spent together growing up. With a beautiful marquee reception, garden portraits at a neighbouring property, and a mix of film and digital photography, their day felt timeless, personal, and effortlessly romantic.

From the moment I arrived, the entire day felt calm and intentional. Surrounded by greenery and mature trees, the camp created the perfect setting for an outdoor summer wedding. Rather than choosing a traditional venue, Briony and Nathan created a celebration that felt deeply personal to them and their families, which made the whole day feel incredibly warm and meaningful.

Briony wore a stunning off-the-shoulder gown from Astra Bridal paired with a delicate veil from Vinka Design, while Nathan wore a classic navy suit from Rembrandt. The styling struck the perfect balance between elegant and relaxed, with soft pastel tones woven throughout the day.

One of my favourite details was the bridesmaid dresses. Instead of matching gowns, the bridal party wore a mix of soft pink, sage, butter yellow, and the most beautiful blue floral dress for the maid of honour that tied everything together perfectly. Combined with woven flower baskets and whimsical florals by Where Rosemary Grows, the whole aesthetic felt romantic, playful, and garden-inspired without feeling overly formal.

Their ceremony took place outdoors beneath the trees, with guests gathered on the grass as Briony and Nathan exchanged vows, surrounded by family and lifelong friends. There was such an easy, emotional atmosphere throughout the ceremony, and you could really feel how loved and supported they are by the people around them.

For portraits, we headed to a neighbouring private garden nearby in Hunua, and honestly, it was such a hidden gem. The hedged pathways, soft afternoon light, and lush greenery created the dreamiest backdrop for photos. Shooting a mix of film and digital photography added so much depth to the gallery too, especially with the nostalgic countryside feel of the day.

Afterwards, guests gathered inside the marquee for the reception, which was filled with soft florals, thoughtful details, and beautiful DIY elements. The entire setup felt elevated while still keeping that relaxed backyard wedding energy that suited the location perfectly.

Dinner was catered by the amazing Aloisio Brazilian BBQ, and the evening unfolded exactly how you’d hope a summer marquee wedding would. Long conversations, heartfelt speeches, golden light filtering through the marquee, and a packed dance floor before Briony and Nathan slipped away at the end of the night.

Weddings like this are such a reminder that the most meaningful celebrations are often the ones that feel the most personal. Choosing a place that already means something to you and creating an experience centred around your people will always make a wedding unforgettable.
