There’s something really special about weddings that feel deeply personal and completely unpretentious, and Hannah and Mac’s day at Hunua Falls Camp was exactly that. Thoughtfully put together with the help of family and friends, their wedding was warm, relaxed, joy-filled and a reminder that you don’t need a huge budget or an overcomplicated plan to create a beautiful day.
Set amongst the trees out in the Hunuas, the venue gave them that slightly nostalgic summer camp feel while still feeling elevated and intimate. The chapel-style ceremony space with its huge windows and A-frame architecture photographed so beautifully, especially paired with Hannah’s soft romantic dress and the bridesmaids in mismatched whites and creams.
The whole day had such an easy rhythm to it. Lots of laughter, lots of people pitching in behind the scenes, and a real sense that everyone there genuinely knew and loved the couple well.
One of my favourite parts of the styling was how unfussy and organic everything felt. Bud vases filled with colourful flowers, candlelight everywhere, long shared tables, fairy lights overhead and little handmade touches throughout the reception space. Nothing felt overly “done”, which honestly made it all feel even more beautiful.
Hannah actually joined me way back on episode 8 of The Kiwi Wedding Podcast in the very early days of the show, where she spoke about planning their wedding affordably, leaning into DIY, and relying on their community around them. Seeing it all come together in real life was such a cool full-circle moment.
Their day is such a good example of how impactful weddings can be when the focus stays on the people, the atmosphere and the experience rather than perfection. Proof that a tight budget doesn’t mean sacrificing beauty or meaning.
If you’re planning a wedding at Hunua Falls Camp and want photography that captures the feeling of the day in a relaxed, natural and editorial way, I’d love to hear from you.
