Amelia and Dean’s backyard wedding in Auckland was the kind of day that reminds you what it’s all about. Relaxed, personal, and full of joy. Celebrating at home with their closest family, and their twin boys front and centre, it felt less like a production and more like a really good, meaningful gathering.
They kept things intentionally simple. A white marquee set up on the lawn, one long table, colourful florals and disco balls bringing everything to life, and a cake cut with kids in arms and zero pressure for perfection. The weather kept things interesting, classic Auckland, but it only added to the energy of the day. Everyone leaning in, making it work, and having a great time doing it.
There’s something about a backyard wedding that strips everything back. No strict timelines, no big transitions, just space to be present with your people. Amelia and Dean fully embraced that. Drinks flowing, kids running around, music playing, bare feet, and moments happening naturally.
As an Auckland wedding photographer, I love capturing these intimate weddings. Honest, a little bit chaotic, and full of feeling. Proof that you don’t need a big venue or elaborate setup to create something special, just the right people, a good atmosphere, and a willingness to go with it.
I also chatted to Amelia on episode 6 of The Kiwi Wedding Podcast. This episode is a few years old now but still such a great chat if you want to hear the behind the scenes of planning this day from the bride herself, go and have a listen!
