Colour, texture and a little bit of fun at Omahanui
There are so many ways to make a wedding feel like you, and this styled shoot at Omahanui Venue in Tauranga was all about exploring that idea through colour, texture and table styling.
I joined TBLE for a day of experimenting with different wedding looks, using the same venue as a blank canvas and completely changing the feeling from one setup to the next. The moodboard explored five different directions, from bold vintage colour and rich velvet to an elegant garden-inspired setting, playful pattern mixing and a much more minimal green and white palette.
It was a good reminder of just how much you can change the feeling of a space through linen, flowers, furniture and colour.
Royal Blue
Bold, saturated and a little bit dramatic.
This look centred around deep blue velvet draping and a rich blue tablecloth, with white plates, navy napkins and polished silver tableware keeping the setting feeling clean against all that colour.
The florals brought in pops of red, blue and purple, with those sculptural blue blooms and mossy textures adding another layer to the table.
We also loved that this setup could work just as well beyond a wedding. The strong colour palette and polished table setting would translate beautifully to a corporate event, dinner or other celebration where you want something a little more considered and distinctive.
Vintage L.A.
This look had a playful, slightly retro feel, bringing together rich colour, velvet textures and those gorgeous scalloped umbrellas outside.
Inside, an apple-green velvet tablecloth was paired with chocolate-brown napkins, timber chairs and a bold red floral arrangement, with the deep blue draping creating a strong backdrop. The little table lamps added another fun detail to the table.
Outside, we carried that colour through with orange velvet cocktail tables and the scalloped umbrellas from Willow Lane, creating a really playful garden setup that felt completely different again.
I think this one shows how much personality you can get from a strong colour palette, without everything having to match perfectly.
Mix & Match
This look was all about layering pattern, texture and colour.
Striped and gingham linens were paired across the table, with lace details, crisp white plates and colourful floral arrangements bringing everything together. The different fabrics added plenty of visual interest, while the simple white crockery gave the table somewhere to breathe.
There’s a nice sense of movement through this setup, from the different tablecloths to the flowers and little details across each place setting. It feels considered without being overly formal, and was one of my favourite setups from the day.
Elegant Garden
The most relaxed and timeless of the looks, this one was inspired by an elegant garden setting.
White linen, soft green details, terracotta pots and wild-feeling floral arrangements brought a fresh, natural feel to the space. Rather than one large, perfectly symmetrical centrepiece, the flowers were allowed to feel a little looser and more organic.
I loved the way the styling connected with the gardens outside Omahanui, particularly when we took the tables and umbrellas out onto the lawn.
60 Pax
This look focused on the scale of the space, using olive green draping, white tablecloths, clear chairs and apple-green napkins to create a fresh, considered setting.
Simple greenery and delicate floral arrangements kept the tables feeling natural, while the green backdrop gave the room plenty of colour without competing with the tables themselves.
The result feels fresh and modern, and shows how the same marquee can take on a completely different character with a change in colour, linen and furniture.
Wedding styling at Omahanui
What I loved most about this shoot was seeing how differently the same space could feel with a change of colour, texture and styling.
From deep blue velvet and saturated florals to soft garden-inspired details and pared-back green and white, there wasn’t one “right” way to approach the venue.
And that’s probably the biggest takeaway I’d have for couples planning their own wedding: you don’t have to choose a wedding aesthetic because it’s what you’re supposed to do.
Think about the colours you naturally gravitate towards, the spaces you love spending time in, the things you want your guests to notice and, most importantly, how you want the day to feel.
Those are the details that make a wedding feel like yours.
