Destination Travel Photographer- Salt Lake City, Utah 2016

Salt Lake City, Utah.

In October last year I went to America for the second time (see the 2015 adventures here), this time it was a mix of family reunions and celebrations, wild nature, bright lights and a Pacific Coast Highway roadtrip. I thought I’d break up my adventures into a few posts or you’ll get bored with the many, many photos. We started off in Salt Lake City, Utah, where my sister and brother-in-law + super cute niece had been living for two years. My younger sister and I flew together from Auckland meeting my parents and the rest of our siblings in SLC. This was the first time we had all been together in two years (another sister had been in London so we were spread around the globe). We spent our time in SLC adventuring, slipping into the quiet city’s day to day life and hugging our niece a lot (we’re a tad obsessed with her!). It was an amazing start to our trip, I’ll try to include recommendations for cool things to do, see and eat throughout these posts (look at me being all travel blogger) and I would love to know if any of you have visited these places and what you loved?

First up: Salt Lake City, Utah!

After some much needed rest, we got up and headed to Antelope Island State Park on the edge of the Great Salt Lake. You can find many great lookout spots here, some interesting wildlife and plenty of photo opportunities!

Our people mover/family van for the first part of our trip!

Pumpkin Farm!

Salt Lake City has the cutest tree-lined streets full of fruit trees, lush gardens and ‘American dream’ houses. It’s a friendly, safe city in the middle of the desert surrounded by mountains.

Our beautiful niece, Ava.

My sister Kate is also a photographer and while in Salt Lake City we took some profile photos of each other at this beautiful grassy spot, I will share more photos of me from that shoot soon!

Classic American diner breakfast! We went to Dee’s Family Restaurant.

Exploring the beautiful Utah State building and surroundings.

On the road! We took a daytrip to the Bonneville Salt Flats.

There had been a little rain so there was some water on the flats but they were beautiful nonetheless. These are the salt flats from the movie The World’s Fastest Indian, a New Zealand film some of you may remember!

A nice exfoliant for the feet but a little stinging after a while!

Gotta get that self-timer family pic!

The next day we checked out the local markets and picked up some yummy coffee and pastries + met a few feathery friends from the wildlife sanctuary.

Little Ava had her first birthday party while we were all there which was so nice to celebrate together and meet some of our sister’s friends.

Next we headed out into the canyonlands for some long days of driving and incredible natural attractions, more to come soon!
