January 2020 – Monthly Favourites

Background Image by Design Love Fest

In addition to my IGTVs I wanted to started this series about things I’ve been loving… whether that be reading, watching, listening to, wearing, eating… anything! Some favourites will be wedding related for all the brides and grooms to be, and some will just be random things I’m enjoying. I thought about doing this in an IGTV format too but just went with the blogpost this month. Let me know if you’d like this in video format too? Obviously this is a bit text-heavy but you can skim through and see if anything catches your eye!

So, here are some of my favourites from January, obviously none of these are sponsored (lol I wish) just things I love that I think you may too…

  • BEAUTY// The Ordinary Oils.
If you haven’t heard of The Ordinary brand yet, I mean, where have you been? They are a skin and haircare brand with all those “superpower” (expensive) ingredients you see in products (e.g. retnoids, amino acids, vitamins etc.) straight from the source for an affordable price. They have many great products and we could be here all day but today I wanted to mention their oils. Many people think oils are just for those with dry skin but as someone with relatively oily/acne-prone skin I can say you ALL need an oil in your skincare regime. I love The Ordinary Rosehip Oil and my skin eats it up. Unfortunately my white pillowcases/sheets do too, leaving not the nicest looking stains! This past month I’ve been using The Ordinary Borage Seed Oil which is a more translucent and much nicer to my sheets + my skin is loving it too. I’m super intrigued to try the Sea-Buckthorn Fruit Oil but I think I’d need black bed-linen to avoid turning everything orange! Let me know any of your skincare faves, and if you’ve revamped your routine leading up to your wedding, I’d love to hear!

  • WEDDING SERVICE// Something Blue.
When I saw this business pop up from the talented Meg Hutchison (who also created The Little White Book among other things) I thought it was such a wonderful idea. As the website says, it is:

“New Zealand’s first bridal box – quarterly deliveries of curated gifts for brides in February, May, August & November. Gifts are carefully chosen to spoil an engaged woman (or man!) with pampering essentials, wedding planning tools and exclusive offers.”

Such a lovely gift idea from a bridesmaid, family member or partner to spoil the bride-to-be!

  • TV SERIES// Cheer on Netflix.
This has been out a while so you may have already seen it. It’s an easily binge-able 6 episodes following the Navarro College Cheer Team from Corsicana, Texas, as they prepare to compete in the National Cheerleading Championship. You don’t have to be into cheerleading, you’ll get sucked into the history of the team, the personal stories, inspiring coach and watching them make flying and somersaulting in the air look like a piece of cake. We all love a good Netflix binge watch!

  • LIVE MUSIC// Sofar Sounds.
I had heard about these events a while ago but only recently attended one here in London. They are intimate gigs held all over the world, there are 444 cities worldwide that host them! You buy a ticket for the date you want and get sent the exact location the day before the show. They generally have three acts that play a mini-set each. Such a great way to discover new and local music and also just a fun night out. There are loads on in London but I also discovered New Zealand hosts Sofar gigs in Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin so check out one near you! A great idea for a date-night and something a little different to dinner and a movie.

  • EMAIL NEWSLETTER// The Daily Good from The Good Trade.
You may have just rolled your eyes thinking “I don’t need more trash and unread emails clogging up my inbox”. I totally agree! I’m an avid unsubscriber of annoying emails and have even axed a few that I like because I cannot keep up! However I do subscribe to a couple of interesting newsletters including The Daily Good. Yes, it’s everyday from Monday to Friday but is totally skimmable! They include some really interesting content from music and podcast recommendations, articles to read and brands to check out. It’s a sustainability, slow living, and self-love vibe, if you’re into that. I’ll usually have a quick skim through, click on a blogpost/article or a podcast episode if it interests me. Worth a looky!

  • DRINK// Wild Apple and Cinnamon Tea.
Ok, so I’m a coffee gal for sure (1-2 a day usually) but also love a good herbal tea! I actually don’t like “normal” English Breakfast tea but I have a stack of herby vibes including many Pukka teas and won’t say no to a wee cuppa any time of day. I’m drinking one right now, as I write this. I may sound like a right Nana but y’all gotta get on the tea train, it’s a good time. I found this Wild Apple and Cinnamon one around Christmastime and wondered where it had been all my life. Maybe being in London and all the indoor coziness of wintertime made me love it. It’s now a part of my regular tea rotation and should be on yours too, you’re welcome.

Let me know if you enjoyed these favourites and if you have any for me! I love hearing what people are reading/watching/wearing/eating etc. and I think it’s always nice to get a more personal recommendation. If you’re into it, I’ll do a post like this each month, to help you on your wedding journey or just general lifestyle! Talk soon lovers xx
