Happy New Year! I know, it’s February already, whaaat?!! 2015 was a big year and I still have so much to show you from then, but I thought we’d start with a goodie, the lovely wedding of Poppy and Elias in Blenheim…
Where do I even begin? These two people are some of the most generous, welcoming and kind souls you’ll ever meet. I flew down to Blenheim for the weekend and stayed with Poppy and her family in the beautiful home they grew up in. They showered me with wine, cheese, food and kindness the whole time, I felt like part of the family by the time we parted ways. Huge thank-you to the Buckleys for your amazing hospitality, it warmed my heart.
Poppy and Elias’ wedding was held at the beautiful Old St Mary’s Convent, a relocated Catholic nuns convent now used as a venue and accomodation. A lot of the history of the building has been preserved throughout and the setting is idyllic for a wedding. The Marlborough region is absolutely stunning, with so many photographable places, I would definitely recommend it if you’re thinking of getting married there!
The wedding day was so full of emotion, I was nearly in tears myself. The genuine love between Poppy and Elias as well as their friends and family was inspiring. As well as an amazing venue, the whole day was styled by the bride’s sister-in-law as well as my talented friend, Holly from H. Otene Stylist with help from Pink Poppie florist. They had planned for an outdoor reception for cocktail hour + dinner but unfortunately the skies opened up (a rare thing in dry wine country) and everything got a bit damp. But it didn’t dampen anyones spirits and all the guests rallied together to relocate the reception into the marquee.
We had planned to sneak out for some photos at golden hour just before sunset (my favourite!) on Poppy’s grandparents farm, a very special place for her as well as being rich in that stunning Marlborough scenery. The rain kept coming and going and we had almost given up hope of doing it, then 20 minutes before sundown I couldn’t shake the feeling I’d regret it if we didn’t do it so I pulled the car round, and we sped off in the very last window of light and the rain held off! I am SO glad we did it!
I could go on about this wonderful day forever but hopefully the photos will speak for themselves. Poppy + Elias, I wish you a lifetime of happiness, laughter and love together xxx
