The Wedding Industry

I am beyond blessed to be a part of an incredible industry that is all about the creative details, beautiful locations, dresses, and rings, and most importantly celebrating love and commitment. What an honour! Being able to photograph a wedding allows me to celebrate with the couple as well as capturing their joy and forever giving them memories of their special day. What an amazing job! So, it is great to be able to work alongside not only amazing florists, hair and makeup artists, celebrants, caterers and other vendors but other wedding photographers too.

When I first was getting into the wedding industry I reached out to a few different wedding photographers and met up for coffee with them, not necessarily to pick their brains, but just to get to know them, hear about their experiences and share common ground. You always learn something meeting meeting new people and those who are likeminded even more! I felt so much love coming into this industry, it is not super competitive, their are enough weddings to go around and for the most part other photographers are really lovely and supportive. Doing a bit of work in the fashion industry, which I still love, but that comes with a dash more pretense and snobbery, the wedding scene is a nice, friendly environment.

There is a great bunch of us in Auckland and it has been amazing to connect in online groups as well as at dinners and catch-ups we’ve organized together. We give each other referrals, help with second-shooting, location scouting, giving each other advice and encouragement. It is incredible to be a part of such a supportive industry where everyone is looking out for each other.

I know any industry is not completely perfect and every now and then something annoys you, but so far all I’ve felt is positivity and love! I hope that is the kind of relationship I can build with my clients as well as my colleagues, because it is not just a quick one day service we do but an exciting journey and collaboration towards capturing thee be wed!
